'Eye Eat Sunshine' Mug with Color Inside (Black or Yellow)
In 2019, Chaka was commissioned by the City of Austin, along with 14 other visual artists, to paint a mural. The work, entitled 'Eye Eat Sun Shine' is now available for your home while you sip your hot or cold beverage!
Chaka chose to do a portrait of Texas native, Kenny Dorham. Dorham spent time in Austin, and could be found at venues like Victory Grill, and Doris Miller Auditorium. In this piece Dorham represents the ancestors and history that surround us. He is playing, and giving energy to the sunflower, helping it grow. The sunflower represents the East Austin community, radiating light out into the world.
The message ‘Eye eat sun shine’ on the pot is a statement which reflects the positive gifts we receive from our ancestors - being open to light.
